“What's up? I hope all is well for you and the others in China and your working hard to promote and ameliorate the already cool ass program of yours. It was a true blast this summer, and I would like to once again say thanks to you, Gordon and Sophie for taking care of us and giving us  all this great opportunity to grow and share.”

"Along with 14 other teachers from across the US, I spent my summer teaching English to middle- and high school students in Southern China. Summary of my trip: A memorable and learning experience on so many levels. This great experience would not have been possible without the AmericaChina Teaching Center (ACT), the organization that facilitated this teaching opportunity in China. I strongly recommend this program to anyone looking for a different or new summer experience. "

"I enjoyed my time in China, and I wanted to thank you as well. I especially enjoyed my time in Shanghai.  I appreciate you showing me around, Isaac.  It was nice to get to know you. I'll definitely let you know if I decide to do the program again.  I've also gotten some people interested in the program as well. Thanks again!"

"I am always impressed with your thoughtfulness-- the quality of the information packets, your willingness to consider our requests for placement, your ability to not be re-active when people weren't happy.   I felt respected and appreciated from the start.  I am glad that the schools were happy with our performace and that they are interested in continuing your business relationship.  You have done a difficult job, well...and your desire to improve is just one more example of why you will continue to prosper.  Thank you for the opportunity and  I would like to take you up on your offer of a certificate and letter of recommendation....just in case I do this again....I cannot imagine that I won't after having had such a great time."

"It is so good to hear from you guys and to know that things were a success overall for your organization this summer. Personally for me it was nothing but good times so it is I who is thanking you. It is to early in the year to cement any plans for next summer, but I would not mind in the least in having a second round of China. I will be in touch and hope you guys will also. In the meantime if I can assist in any way please let me know. You guys have my email and my phone number so don't hesitate to ask. God bless you guys. -Rock n Roll"

" I enjoyed my China experience immensely. From meeting us at the airport, to making sure that we all got where we were supposed to go I want to say thanks. You are welcome to use my name or email as references for students considering coming over.
Thank you, for all the work you did over the summer."

" I had an amazing experience and will hold China very close to my heart forever.  I miss the life I lead for my short time there and the wonderful friends I found in
both my teaching partners and our assistants.  America is so quiet compared to China, I miss the life style, closeness and friendly nature of the chinese people.  I will one day return to China, I don;t know how soon
that will be but I will definitely return.I hope you are all well and everyone is having as great of an experience
as I did."

First off, I wanted to thank you both for all of your hard work in organizing and implementing the summer ACT program. My five weeks in China was truly a perspective-enhancing, enriching, fun experience, from which I have undoubtedly formed life-long memories. Thank you as well for being so accommodating with my unique travel demands. If you would like to add me to your website as a previous volunteer contact, feel free to do so. I hope all is well with you both, and that our paths may cross again in the future.

"Thanks again for a great experience.  I will never forget my time in China, the people I met and the places I saw.  I'd love to help with recruitment as a reference for anyone who wants to talk with anyone who's done the program or in a submitted testimonal form.  And I will of course tell friends about the program, especially those who are adventerous and flexible!  Let me know if I can do anything... Stay in touch."

" Now that the dust has settled and I've had time to reflect on the experience, I realize how much I really got out of it.  It was really an incredible time and one I'll remember forever. The students at the camp were incredible and living in a little community in China for almost a month was very interesting.  I'll remember it always."

How's life post China this summer? Or, are you still there? I think if you talk to Sam, Brooke or myself, we'll all have the same answer that we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and the unexpected twists and turns made it that much more of an adventure. I left with everything I'd hoped for and additional perks, like travelling a little and being forced to practice the Chinese without having ACT guides. Even though we were only in Xiantao for a short while, I'm trying to keep in contact with the students and TAs. All in all, a wonderful experience that never could have been predicted or imagined when I signed up.
Let me know if you guys ever try to put together photos from the summer or whatnot!"

“I’ve just finished my first term of teaching in China, and it has truly been a most excellent experience. Spending time with kids, making so many dear friendships, opening up to a whole new culture and leaning Chinese have made the past months some of most fruitful in my life.I really have to hand it to Chinese hospitality and their sense of humility. With my friends here in China, despite the enormous difference in habits and past experiences, even in the absence of a common language, we’ve never faced barriers to connecting, or boundaries in trust. So if you’re considering coming down to China, don’t think twice. Bring some hiking shoes, and your clubin gear… You’ll have a blast!”

“It's great to hear that ACT is growing by leaps and bounds.  I've been telling friends and family about the amazing experience I had this summer, so hopefully I can get you guys some good recruits. I also admit that the half year program is looking really tempting”

“I do not think I have fully expressed how appreciative I am of ACT for allowing me to have so many wonderful experiences over the summer with my fellow teachers and with my students. I would like to express my appreciation in my desire to rejoin the ACT program. Please let me know if such positions are available for the spring. I am also interested in participating in the summer program again, as well as possibly teaching next fall.”

“I've been meaning to get in touch with for some time now to say thank you for all your hard work this summer and for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the teaching program.  Despite the ups and downs, I really had an amazing experience.  It has totally turned me on to teaching as a career.  I'm actually heading to Spain in less than 2 weeks to get the TEFL certification.  I am very interested in the teaching positions available in China and I thank you for offering me the opportunity to apply.”

“I very much miss and crave the culture, experiences and people I had while in China . I found teaching and spending time with the children extremely rewarding. The experiences I had in China left me with a great feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment, and I would like to thank you for being a part of making that all possible.”

"When I decided to go to China last summer, I knew that I didn't want to do a typical tourist vacation. This program allows you to really 'live' in China, rather than 'visit' China. Getting to know a small group of Chinese students over the course of the program creates a very strong bond. The experience is both fun and challenging, but you will find that the most difficult thing is to say goodbye."
Joey Vandalsem, Summer 2003
